BYE LAW 4B

Description: RE-ACCREDITATION AS A SUPERVISOR
Date: Effective from 1st August 2025

📄 Content:

1. In accordance with Bye Law 4A, accredited members of IAHIP may also be accredited by the Association as supervisors. Once a member’s accreditation as a Supervisor has expired, they may be re-accredited as a supervisor if they meet the conditions set out in this Bye Law.
2. A member making an application for re-accreditation as an IAHIP supervisor must fill in the appropriate application form and:
(a) confirm that they have maintained a supervision practice;
(b) provide documentary evidence from their supervisor confirming that supervision of their supervision practice has taken place;
(c) provide evidence of CPD directly related to the theory and practice of supervision; and
(d) show evidence of current professional indemnity insurance cover in relation to supervision practice.
3.   Accreditation as an IAHIP supervisor, and each subsequent re-accreditation, is valid for a period of five years (subject to clause 4 below, and subject to the payment of such annual fees as may be determined by the Association from time to time), and those wishing to continue their accreditation as IAHIP supervisors must reapply to the Supervision Committee (hereinafter “the Committee”) before the expiration of their current accreditation and demonstrate that they have met the required criteria for re-accreditation.
4. Accreditation as an IAHIP supervisor is linked to accreditation as a psychotherapist, accordingly such accreditation shall become invalid automatically if an accredited supervisor ceases to be a member of the Association.
5. Accreditation (or re-accreditation) as a psychotherapist and accreditation (or re-accreditation) as an IAHIP supervisor involve distinct application processes, and separate fees, as laid down from time to time, are payable.
6. Those whose applications have not been accepted for re-accreditation as a supervisor must be informed in writing by the Committee Secretary and a report stating the grounds for the decision must be provided to the applicant. Applicants may reapply once the deficits detailed in this report have been rectified.
7. Non-Practising Supervisors
7.1 Accredited, fully paid-up Supervisors, who wish to take a break from their supervision practice for personal or other reasons (e.g. career change, illness, travel, study) for one year or more, may become Non-Practising Supervisors.
7.2 Members may become Non-Practising Supervisors and continue in that status, by notifying IAHIP Administration and the Supervision Committee of their decision, and by paying the special Non-Practising Supervisor annual subscription, which will be determined by the Governing Body from time to time.
7.3 Supervisors who signify their intention to become Non-Practising Supervisors remain as fully paid-up supervisors until the end of the year for which they have already paid their subscription, and their Non-Practising Supervisor status begins at the beginning of the following year.
7.4 Non-Practising Supervisors may not, as long as they hold that status, continue to represent themselves as practising IAHIP Supervisors. Non-Practising Supervisors may use the designation SIAHIP (Non-Practising).
7.5 Non-Practising Supervisors shall not be covered by the IAHIP complaints policy and procedures for the time in which they hold that status. They shall, however, continue be bound by the IAHIP complaints policy and procedures in relation to any complaint that pertains to the time they were practising Supervisors of the Association.
7.6 Where a Non-Practising Supervisor wishes to return to their Supervisory Practice, they must notify the Supervision Committee who will determine whether special workshops / training is deemed necessary. Full payment for the current year will be required and prior to resuming their Supervision Practice they must have contracted with a supervisor (which may be the same supervisor as for their psychotherapy practice).
7.7 They must also provide an up-to-date copy of professional indemnity insurance covering supervision.
7.8 They must abide by the provisions of Bye Law 6B.
8. Undertakings
All applicants for re-accreditation as supervisors of IAHIP must give the following undertakings in the event that their application is successful:
a. to abide by the IAHIP Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors;
b. to present themselves for re-accreditation as an IAHIP Supervisor as IAHIP requires;
c. to show commitment to their ongoing professional development as a supervisor;

9.2 Applicants for re-accreditation, whose applications are refused by the Committee, may appeal this decision if the Committee did not properly follow its own procedures.
